GOOD NEWS!

I know its in French but it pretty much says that Blitzkrieg mod has been GRENLIT :) today after 25 days on the Steam Greenlight page.

We will now have some work to do with Valve in order to introduce Blitzkrieg on the Steam platform, it will take some time, but its in process now, so be patient, we do not have any release time yet.

So it's happening! I always wished for this moment.
Bk is finally going to Steam!!
But then... Relic suddenly releases a workshop update for CoH1 after more than 7 years of pure silence.. everyone thought they had no interest in CoH1 anymore.
So, why now?
The only thing i feel optimistic about this Relic update, is if they could have successfully fixed the desync issue.. hopefully. But other than that, then honestly I wouldn't be exaggerating if I said that this Relic update actually freaks me out to some extent.

Market share retention and it's an easy port from CoH2.

And I still think that the desync issue isn't a "steam issue", it's a combination of BK inherently how much sega is willing to pay steamworks to host. They probably paid just enough to get a server that can handle regular vcoh games. BK gets desyncs cuz of the explosion of extra calculations and data required. I would bet vcoh1 doesn't get desync problems. Why would sega pay more for a game that will no longer generate revenue for them? They'd sooner invest in CoH3 or enhancements to CoH2. Just some speculation since this comes up really often.

Relic just open up the successfull coh2 type Workshop for coh1 and give some little extras to it, nothing to be scared, coh3 is surelly on the way somewhere, so they will not spend more money on coh1 platform with an old engine, the only peoples who are gonna be scared are the players with pirates copies i guess, Relic with this move is retaken control a little bit more of the coh1 game franchise who has been put a side for a very long time, if they fix some few bugs at the same time, well, its even better.

Hmm, it's all about the timing of such an update though which seems a little suspicious to me! But well.. let's just always hope for the best :)

Sure a workshop so late is a bit surprizing.

For illegal copy I dont think news versions or even an offer at low price will change anything. I personally know, for example, BK pvp players who play lan and even dont care about steam version. Bk work fine on 2.602

For desynch, steam version is not responsible. Not sure If I have tested it, but I m pretty sure it can happen even on dvd version with two computers linked with a crossed twisted pair network cable.

Doesn't that mean coh was p2p at some point? Then at some point "relic online" happened that made it c2s which would open the possibility of desyncs?

Dsynch happens at vCoh too, but way less often, than bkmod.Considering information we have, chance to get dsynchd, is multiplied by some factors like "average" PC powers over players involved, map size and unit/effects numbers. So it just take different overlimit numbers for vCoh, but problem is the same.

And much congratulations with BKsteam!!!

Eastern Front mod also made it to Steam btw.. it was featured by Relic within the announcement of the workshop update too!
Hopefully this means that mods in CoH1 won't ever be downgraded into becoming just some sort of workshop items that players would keep transferring with each other throughout the game lobby...
Since I really hate how this is being handled in CoH2, so I hope the workshop update for CoH1 isn't exactly an identical to the CoH2 system; as I wish if it's restricted to be just for maps and other stuff, mods should always be excluded from that.

Not really, EF had much more things to do in order to be available on Steam compare to us, but things need to get done and it takes times, we aren't alone in that process, Relic, Valve and Us are working on it, so now be patient.

Greenlight no longer exist starting from today, further mod/games devs. will need to go with the new different system called "Steam Direct", nothing is changing concerning our Steam introduction thru the old Greenlight process.

The only thing who is changing is that they remove the votes system, each games direct submission will cost $100 to reduce BS games, the $100 fee will be giving back from Steam if the game sell more than $1000, thats all, not a big deal, nothing to be scared.

From Valve (Steam).
Image

The new Steam Direct process will work as follows: “A new developer will simply need to fill out some digital paperwork, including entering bank and tax information and going through a quick identity verification process.” After that, a fee of $100 USD will have to be paid for each game the developer wants to have appear on Steam. This $100 can be recouped if a game makes $1,000 (whether that’s net or gross or what isn’t stated).

Valve will continue the review process where, prior to release, a team “installs each game to check that it is configured correctly, matches the description provided on the store page, and doesn’t contain malicious content”. In addition, they mention that if you’re a brand new developer you’ll have to wait 30 days between paying the Direct fee and getting your game on Steam; Valve want to do additional checks to make sure you’re legit.
