New maps / mappacks

Hello fellow blitzkriegers,

many of you decided to pick/select/pack/distribute or whatever some new maps for the mod.

To give it a bit of officiality:

1) We intend to release new official BK Mappack 2
2) Every map should have known author, every author of map should be credited
3) There shouldnt be 100 new maps, but rather max 30, fine picked maps - why will be written below
4) My opinion on player max is: 2-3 1vs1 maps, 6-10 2vs2 maps, 6-10 3vs3 maps and 4-8 4vs4 maps
5) Maps should either have part city part open field or they should be somewhat evened (so there isnt 29 open field maps)
6) I would like to release the mappack around the same time as next patch

So why 30 maps instead of like 80 that is about total of what is currently being picked by players? Because
a) Mappack will be too big - some players still look at that, if you have big pack of something, it usually means that its not a huge quality + it is larger to download and some players just won't dl that
b) Good BK player roughly knows every map, can judge how the maps are balanced and may develop some skill based on map environment, with too many maps, that will become too dificult, remember that this is old game, old mod and player numbers are more decreasing than increasing and it probably won't be much better in future
c) I am pretty sure, that from 30 maps like 5-7 will became played a lot, and others won't... and that number won't increase that much with 80 maps total
d) Compstomp players will usually have different mappacks anyway

So in the end, I appreciate what you are doing, and I will appreciate even more, if you will have pack of about 30 maps ready, in sga format, with author name and permission and there will be some consensus about that in the community. I am willing to give it official BK stamp and promote it as such gladly then, with credits to pickers also.

I have a question about gaining permission to use the maps. If the original creator has not marked their map but instead released it years ago, would you still hold that map to the same standard?

Not sure what you mean by marked. I am not sure honestly, we probably should prefer highly maps with author + permission, however I understand that it might be hard and 95% of authors wouldn't really care, but there might be exceptions.

Marked as in they signed their name into the map somewhere, either in description, loading screen picture, subliminally in the map lol.
So, does this mean you would consider maps with anonymous authors?

I'd prefer if I wouldn't need to.

Well, I was pretty sure anyway that u would actually never add all of the 46 maps which I have selected; for almost the same reasons after all.. therefore I suggest u just add the 7 UKvaultman maps... And the remaining ones could probably contain the top recommendations for the 46 maps of which I have also elected for u in the PMs.
Some authors already included their names through the loading screens of those maps btw!

Alright... So; 30 - 7 UKvaultman maps = 23, I can provide u with 20 decent ones right now.. here are my top recommendations of the 46 elected maps (viewtopic.php?f=27&t=1008) with precise details:-

1 > 4p Bocage >> Author; already mentioned on the map loading screen as well as also at the 'map info' description button >>> The map name actually says it all, as it's nothing but just a beautiful map full of tactically positioned bushes and trees.

2 > 4p Bizory >> Author; already mentioned on the map loading screen >>> A snow map... But simply an amazing one with a small city part combined with open field parts too.

3 > 4p Blockbuster City >> Author:- already mentioned at the 'map info' description button >>> Urban city map.

4 > 4p High Valley >> Author:- already mentioned on the map loading screen >>> Simply an amazing one...

5 > 4p Baupte Normandy >> Author:- Kretan http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread. ... rmandy-2v2 Not to mention btw that I also know this other guy called Lethal Dosage very well, he is the creator of the Cross of Iron mod.. too bad he didn't continue but anyways >>> Another very cool map.

6 > 4p D-Day Plus Seven >> Author:- already mentioned on the map loading screen >>> More than enough available base building space is probably what really makes this map very special to me.

7 > 4p Deparmentale 913 >> Author:- already mentioned on the map loading screen >>> Excellent map again.

8 > 4p Dunlap >> Author:- already mentioned on the map loading screen >>> Perfectly fits the criteria.

9 > 4p Village of War >> Author:- already mentioned on the map loading screen >>> Extra large.. could be interesting!

10 > 4p Carpiquet Airport >> Author:- mentioned at the 'map info' description button >>> Not bad.

11> 4p Laval >> Author:- already mentioned on the map loading screen >>> Reminds me with La-Fiere :P

12 > 4p Lafayette >> Author:- already mentioned on the map loading screen >>> Fits more as a 1vs1 map.

13 > 4p Baerenschanze >> Author:- mentioned at the 'map info' description button >>> Quite complicated but still no reason to exclude it.

14 > 4p Bieville Orne >> Author:- mentioned at the 'map info' description button >>> Wide beautiful forest.

15 > 4p St Vith >> Author:- already mentioned on the map loading screen >>> Another good snow map.

16 > 4p Country Side >> Author:- mentioned already at the 'map info' description button >>> Fits more as a 1v1 map.

17 > 6p Clarendon >> Author:- SkipP http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread. ... -Mappack-I >>> Magnificent.

18 > 6p Loire Valley >> Author:- already mentioned on the loading screen of the map >>> Astonishing!

19 > 6P Kaiserslautern >> Author:- already mentioned on the loading screen of the map >>> Urban city map.

20 > 6p MountainPass >> Author:- already mentioned on the loading screen of the map >>> This map might be completely different to any other since it does have some important strategic hills.

Sorry, couldn't find any decent 4vs4 maps with known authors.
I believe there is nothing more I could ever manage doing in order to provide more help! :)

P.S I can see that finally it has been announced on the Bk launcher that the next patch shall be on the upcoming April ^^ Horray! :D
Cheers ;)

I feel like a lot of these are too small. To be honest, I've gone and edited some of them but if we are going to keep playing on small maps instead I might as well just not really work on this anymore. There are 2 more probably worth adding. Bjila, which is in the BK archives already. And MrEasyUK's 6p winter map. Both of them are actually decently sized already.

Village of War is too small?! :D
Clarendon is too small??!!
High Valley is too small as well??? It's bigger and better than any 2vs2 map we have currently got for Bk!!!
Bocage isn't small either.
D-Day Plus Seven can't be called a small map too...
D913 is again bigger and better than any 2v2 map we currently have!

The problem with some of them are that they are long, rather than big, with very obvious choke points. So yeah, I guess they are "too small" in the sense that there really wasn't much a player can do besides rush those chokepoints.

So for example clarendon, I actually made it a 2v2 for myself and played it with some players. D913 is actually a bk map already? I don't know why it was removed/hidden along with others.
Same with kaiserslaturn, another really great one but i just felt like it's a better 2v2 map.

Then you take something like village war, which would have been great in concept but there are a lot of things holding it back. For example if the stupid little river thing wasn't there that shows no real game/strategy purpose except probably aesthetics which it really didn't achieve, it was still a pretty ugly looking river lol. Which brings me to the next point, the aesthetic in general was a bit lower quality, but that's not that big of a deal. But what I did feel it lacked was some more objects. That probably contributed to its weak aesthetics. The openess didn't seem to have purpose except for the fact that the author didn't feel like fill in the spaces and occasionally put some random ambiance object to make it look not so bland. What this ends up doing is even though there is a lot of space, it becomes area focused and all the space becomes obsolete or easy killzones for campers to just set up with clear 360 los with no cover for attack.
You take a map like bjlia which is almost identical but even MORE open space, it just seemed much more well done despite it being a wip by nero. The open space had purpose, it was farm country with textures, making it perfect for tank maneuvers. I had a 1v1 on that map even though it is well big enough for a 3v3. It was a blast because it became a huge game of maneuvers and tank tactics. The map itself gave enough fuel to encourage more tank fights over infantry rushes, but didn't discourage infantry battles as well in the main city (a really decently made city too).
Just map quality wise, they seemed like good concepts and maybe the problem isn't just dimensions. I guess I made a blanket statement about size solving things, but it can't JUST be big. The quality of the small maps have to extend out to the greater dimensions of the map as well otherwise you just get a different kind of problem.

Just my opinion though. It's pretty apparent that every person has the born right to be wrong.

Well, I agree that Village of War may not be a high quality map.. but keep in mind that all these are just suggestions after all... As I felt the duty to help with providing more maps and that's what I found.
But where is this map u keep mentioning btw, Bjlia?? I can see it nowhere!! Maybe upload it so that we could try out.

I know u always like to make 2v2 games on 3vs3 maps.. and 3v3 games on 4vs4 maps as well as 1v1 games on bigger 2vs2 maps too... But hey; that's ur own taste, not all the players like do that although I admit it's sometimes very interesting.

A map such as High Valley or Bocage and probably also that one called D-Day Plus Seven could be in fact considered as dream maps in my own perspective :P However that I am totally aware that some others are actually not that great on the other hand.. but they could be still better than just nothing though!

Just add the 7 UKvaultman maps... Then check the 20 ones which I have selected right there!

Add this one, looks good, plays well, AI stomps in 4 Player versus AI, points and sectors are ballanced and made for BK years ago, in 6 and 8 player versions.

I've finally checked the maps selected by Tiger, honestly 80% of them are unplayable\buged\unbalanced.

Such as...? How exactly bugged or unplayable?!

I dont remember than names right now, but there were several maps with only huge res points (like 5 +14 fuel points on one map, same with ammo ), several were just poorly detalized consisting on 60% of fields, on some others buildings are buged and infantry is just walking circles arround the house instead of entering it.

U should give us names with some more precise information if u are really that honest as u say or at least just like how Kwok did, but I could assure u that specifically the first 8 maps are working extremely fine without any bugs at all or even bad details.. they might be even better than lots of the currently represented 2vs2 maps in Bk.

What could be badly detailed is Village of War for sure, Country Side (a bit) as well as probably the map number 13 together with few more perhaps... However that as I said; the first 8 ones are simply great. I made several pvp games out there too!

I gave Warhawks my maps I think. I stopped though. So I only have like 7 packed, 3 of them are ukvault, one is easyUk, the rest are ones I found. Sorry I keep not posting them when I'm at home. I'll try again later. I also think I know where to put sgb files so that there are no bugs. Haven't tested it though.

Blockbuster City actually is a relic map, someone switched it to make it playable on normal games it is actually the map for "Survival" mode in the vanilla Company of heroes...
