Veterancy

Postby Wer525 » 10 Jun 2016, 15:08

Hi everyone,
i've been playing for some times with bk mod, and i'd like to know more about how the veterancy system works.
I know that the xp gained by a unit depends on how strong was the enemy, and i know that varius bouns are given to the unit that gains veterancy. There is some sort of list that shows what every units gain at every level of veterancy, how many points each units need to level-up and how many xp an units gives when dies? Can anyone explain it to me please?

Thanks in advance for any answer. :)

Hey, so in terms of exact numbers, there are a lot and there are two ways you can find out.
You can dig into Corsix and find them yourself or you can ask about a unit specifically and hope someone will do the work in finding out for you.
An easy list doesn't exist on forum or anywhere to my knowledge.

About "wrong place to post". I actually think you have a great question and there should be an obvious place for you to ask. One thing I want to bring up (again) is building a place in the official forum for easy access to knowledge, help, and guides. Is that something you'd like to see?

@wer525
The Veterancy system is quite complex thing. I'll try to give some basic info:
- Each unit gathers XP for killing opponent units and has some levels of XP at which they gain Veterancy level.
- the ammount of XP needed for Veterancy levels is different for every unit unit (so e.g. Elites have them higher, so they level up slower)
- Each unit has set an amount of XP that is rewarded to the unit that kills it (generally speaking stronger units provide more XP when killed)
- but there are some modifiers to this because e.g. Croc Churchill gave very little XP even though it should have given more (to be honest I don't know why this was happening)

On each vet level unit gets bonuses which make them more combat-efficient. The bonuses are mostly the same but sometimes they differ a little.
Some time ago I made a notes to see the bonuses - I started with US faction (and never got to others since it is incredibly boring to go through all the units and check the stats) but I think the bonuses are same or very similar for units of same category of other factions too:

Jeeps (all versions)/ M3/M2 transport HT/ M16 (quad .50cal HT)/ M21 (mortar HT)/ M3 T48 (AT HT)
Vet1: Speed +25%
Vet2: Weapon accuracy + 25%
Vet3: Weapon damage +25%

M15A1
Vet1: Speed +25%
Vet2: Weapon accuracy + 15%
Vet3: Weapon damage +15%

M20 Recon Vehicle/ Command Car/M8 Greyhound/M8 Scott
Vet1: Speed +25%
Vet2: Penetration + 50%
Vet3: Weapon damage +15%

Stuart Light Tank/M24 Chaffee/ Shermans/M10/M18/Jacksons/Pershings/SP
Vet1: Weapon accuracy +10%; Reload time -5%
Vet2: Weapon accuracy +10%; Reload time -10%
Vet3: Weapon accuracy +10%; Reload time -10%
Vet4: Weapon accuracy +15%; Reload time -10%; Received damage -25%

Sherman Calliope
Vet1: Weapon accuracy +10%; Reload time -5%; Short barrage recharge time -10sec; long barrage recharge time -5 sec
Vet2: Weapon accuracy +10%; Reload time -10%; Short barrage recharge time -10sec; long barrage recharge time -5 sec
Vet3: Weapon accuracy +10%; Reload time -10%; Short barrage recharge time -10sec; long barrage recharge time -5 sec
Vet4: Weapon accuracy +15%; Reload time -10%; Received damage -25%; Short barrage recharge time -10sec; long barrage recharge time -5 sec

Sherman 105mm
Vet1: Reload time -10%; Barrage cooldown -5sec, Scatter -10%
Vet2: Reload time -10%; Barrage cooldown -5sec, Scatter -10%
Vet3: Reload time -10%; Barrage cooldown -5sec, Scatter -10%
Vet4: Reload time -10%; Barrage cooldown -5sec, Scatter -10%

AT guns:
Vet1: accuracy +15%
Vet2: penetration +50%
Vet3: damage +25%

Infantry
Vet1: Accuracy +5%; Harder to hit by 5%; Harder to suppress by 5%
Vet2: Accuracy +5%; Harder to hit by 5%; Harder to suppress by 5%; grenade and Sticky range +6
Vet3: Accuracy +5%; Harder to hit by 6%; Harder to suppress by 6%; Max health +5%; improved Sprint
Vet4: Accuracy +5%; Harder to hit by 6%; Harder to suppress by 6%; Max health +7%; Health regeneration +0.011; Double Stickies; Fireup
Vet5: Accuracy +5%; Harder to hit by 6%; Harder to suppress by 6%; Max health +7%; Health regeneration +0.011; Type changed to “heroic infantry” (supression -25%)

The bonuses stack so the unit at Vet level 3 still benefits from the previous level bonuses.

The bonuses stack multiplicatively if the value is noted in "%" if it is +/- then they stack additively (e.g. HP regen for infantry or barrage recharge time for 105 Sherman).
When a bonus says +5% then it means (basic_value x 1.05) because in the game 1 = 100%, so 0.95 = 95% and 1.2 = 120% so if the basic value gets multiplied by "0.x" then it is nerfing the value while multiplier of "1.x" is buffing the value.

Sometimes the bonuses make little sense - M20 gets at Vet2 +50% penetration but since ot only has .50cal the penetration doesn't give it much of an edge - it is a different story for Greyhound though since it has a cannon...the infantry bonuses apply to e.g. scouts too but they have no weapons so they don't benefit from the +5% accuracy (they can get XP if they kill something with their abilities - such as Infantry doc scout with VT)

Quick question, modifiers are off the base right? So a max vet inf has +25% accuracy?

Yes. Or I think so. The formula is basic_value × (all_modifiers). So in the end for vet5 infantry it is (1,05*1,05*1,05*1,05*1,05) which is 1,276... So the bonus is actualy something over 27,6%.

The axis vehicle and AT gun vet is completely different. As i once said those are mostly taken from vcoh. I mean just take a look and nebelwerfer. With vet 1 it gains speed bonus. A massive one. It becomes even faster than mechanized rocket artillery. Thats maybe a reason why neblers have these set up and dismantle times. Otherwise they would be kind of "lamborghini arty" and more or less impossible to to give counter arty a chance.

Also axis rocket arty has reduced scatter with vet.

The best vehicle vet has in my opinion the sdkfz 234. Iirc sight bonus, accuracy/damage and HP/reduced received taken damage. Though the M16 and M15A1 is also impressive, just they do not have that survivability or resistance to enemie fire.

Many asking me for the officer vet bonuses. Maybe you write them down as well? coz they are pretty impressive actually. IIrc they even increase the received vet which makes inf veting even faster. In my opinion infantry and officer vets are the most impressive one which in my opinion makes infantry in general so powerfull. The fact that they just need MP, that they can retreat fast and reinforce, their allrounder equipment and that they get all these bonuses from cover. And most vets improve abilities like sprint and nades. And there is nothing the vet doesnt buff for inf. Cooldowns, accuracy, recieved damage/accuracy, HP, even damage (the officer group bonus iirc increases weapon damage), reload speed. So yeah, inf units are becoming real badass, doesnt matter which unit. "Useless" inf is only those which cant be upgraded with zooks/schreck (talking about the purchasable upgrade). But even pios can frontal rush tanks with vet 4. I once picked a schreck with them and thus getting lots of vet. With vet 4 i could rush any tank unless it got support from others. I had not even the def doc. No tank/vehicle/weapon crew stats/vets can match with inf vets(my opinion).

The axis vehicle and AT gun vet is completely different.

As I said - I made lists only for USA and then I stopped so yeah, other factions can have differences.

Many asking me for the officer vet bonuses. Maybe you write them down as well?

There has been a request to make a separate forum subsection where strategies and general useful knowledge would be shared (basically leave the current "Matchmaking and Strategies" for replays and make simply "Strategies") so when the "new looks" of the forum is finished I hope we can set this up and these lists of Officer bonuses and Vet bonuses and whatnot could be listed and pinned there...To be honest I still want to finish my list for other factions than USA to see which units have some non-sensical bonuses and maybe give them some more useful ones. But one thing after another.

@Wer525: You're welcome :)

generally increased survivability. You can actually get them from coh wiki. Puma gets sight bonus, hp or reduced damage and damage buff. Not sure though but i remember there was something like this. AT guns get health and stuff. As i said, they become more durable. CW AT guns the same. Its just US that gets more offensive focused vets for the AT guns.
