Officers and M10

Postby Lando4president » 22 Dec 2017, 12:43

So first the US Captain, the WH officer and the PE officer (don't ask me to spell it) currently can't pick up weapons, shouldn't it be fixed?
Second i noticed that the M10 Wolverine doesn't auto-shoot when camouflaged, and there's no "fire at will" option either, is it a bug?

US captain comes armed with a Thompson, WM officer can be upgraded with MP 40, PE officer comes with two bodyguards who already have StG44. These units are not meant to give bonuses to other infantry who covers them in return so they don't need to pick up LMGs and whatever other weapons.

Auto-fire at enemy in camo was disabled for tank destroyers/hunters several patches ago. It was requested by players because often the unit was hidden and fired at lesser targets (such as halftracks) while a second later there was more valuable target in range. If some TDs shoot automatically from camo, then it is because we forgot to disable it for them too.
"Fire at will" option is not there because the slot in UI is taken by some other ability iirc.

That auto fire thing is weird.

Some do not shoot at all. E.g Jagdpanther.

The Hetzer fires at tanks, but not HT´s. In a match a mortar HT came into range and bombed my Scout car that upgraded a point. Later i noticed that the hetzer could have killed it easily. Just i was busy elswhere. I ordered to shoot manually but my vehicle was lost.

So i cant say that i like it. If you dont want to fire your unit, just use hold fire.

Also its quite silly for allied TD´s. If you want to shoot manually on something and making a missclick the tank will rush out of its ambush.
Also you dont know when a unit is in range. If you go with your mouse over a unit it turns red and makes your unit attacking it. That includes going out of ambush. Axis have it easier here since their td cant rush out of ambush without disabling the ability. So the mouse turns red first when the units is in range.

It just added a lot more manual work and constant carefull controle, esspecially for allied.

And which other abilties? There is plenty space in the ui left. Also some have this ability iirc. It pops up when unit is camoed. In case of M10, if there is no slot left, remove hit and run and add hold fire instead.

But this manual controle all the time (and sometimes you have TD´s everywhere) is just a pain. + This missclick fails with allied TD´s.

"Free fire" pops up when unit is camoed - it pops up automatically in certain UI slot and if you place another ability to that slot, you no longer have "Free fire". In RE Achilles cannot use it because its UI is already full, for Wolverine I think that if you upgrade the unit with buldozer, the "lower/raise bulldozer" ability is in this slot too.

Also as I said - people asked for this. We are not changing this auto-targetting every few months based on how community feels about it each time.

I think ask for auto fire come mostly from compstompers. They use camo TD as guard on large map, as fire and forget. Of course if it dont fire ...

PVP players are on a different logic where they dont want to be automatically duped by a low value life bait that will spoil the ambush.

This is part of pvp enhancements which is a downgrade for solo/multicoop players. It is an unavoidable/natural counterpart, and when a game specialize in on side (usually pvp) it is at expense of the other.

anf for this you can hold fire ability (if we had them for all)

Idk. I havent got warm with it. Esspecially the M10 wolverine. You see a tank IV being already quite close and the turret hasnt started to turn yet. And when you click manually on it the tank often rushes out of its ambush for no reason.
