From what I understand, tanks will often chase their targets when one clicks the 'attack' command, and I've been told this is a bug that's been around for a long time.

Will this get fixed next patch? Is there a way to institute a hold ground command for tanks, in addition to the one infantry have?

Also, I notice that the Panzer Elite has a tank with a 'hold facing' command - I believe it is the Beobachtungspanzer IV Ausf. J.

Would you guys consider instituting this for all tanks? It could also aid rearwards movement.

I think you can already do what you mention with the "manual commands" for your tanks, just that obliges you to use only that unit with mid-intense micro.
